We are excited to announce significant improvements to our products! All water-containing formulations require preservatives to safeguard against bacteria, mold, and yeast. At Wenonah, we have embraced Hurdle Technology to enhance the safety and longevity of our products. Our commitment to using more user-friendly and environmentally conscious preservatives has led us to incorporate EcoCert-approved Gluconolactone and Sodium Benzoate.
Unlike traditional harsh preservatives, Gluconolactone and Sodium Benzoate utilize a gentler approach by employing Hurdle Technology. This innovative method creates a more challenging environment for microbes, effectively reducing spoilage while enhancing the self-preservation capabilities of our formulations. Hurdle technology is a method of preservation that combines multiple factors, or “hurdles,” to inhibit or kill bacteria and ensure product safety. The goal is to create an environment that’s hostile to microorganisms.
Our preservative components are derived from ingredients recognized as Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) and are fully accepted by ECOCERT for use in certified organic cosmetics. Gluconolactone, a gluten-free fermented starch sourced from non-genetically modified corn, undergoes fermentation with non-GMO microorganisms. It serves multiple functions in the cosmetic industry, acting as a moisturizer, antioxidant, and chelant. As a next-generation alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), Gluconolactone is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and is known for its non-irritating and antioxidant properties.
By prioritizing safety and sustainability, we are proud to offer products that not only perform effectively but also align with our values of being kind to both people and the planet.
